I’ll stray from my typical wordy oatmeal descriptions and keep this short and sweet. Pear oats are the next best thing to banana oats. If you have a ripe pear on hand, you best be making this tomorrow morning.
Cinnamon Pear Oats
In the pot:
1/4 cup Trader Joe’s quick-cooking steel cut oats
1/2 cup Lactaid nonfat milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 ripe pear, diced
Stirred in at the end:
tablespoon of chia seeds stirred in at the end
teaspoon cinnamon
dash of almond extract (!!) stirred in at the end
On top:
tablespoon TJ’s creamy unsalted Almond Butter
large sprinkle Nature’s Path Hemp Plus Granola
dollop of Polaner’s apricot fruit spread
sprinkle of raisins
These oats had chew from the steel cut style, creaminess from the chia seeds (not to mention an ample amount of stirring), and were unbelievably aromatic from the almond extract. I am an almond fanatic and adding almond extract to oats is sensational. It’s something I rarely do because I’m quite picky about what should be paired with almond extract but pears most definitely work well. If you have never smelled almond extract oats then, quite frankly, you haven’t lived. An exaggeration? Not for this chica.
Small cup of SB’s House Blend on the side. Perfect start to my Wednesday. =)
