Two dark chocolate minis with vanilla bean butter cream for my roomies and a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for moi.
What better way to fend off the depressing draw of a rainy Saturday than with cake?
Sweet, you are most definitely deserving of your name.
Two friends and I braved today’s stormy weather and walked a mile for these delights! Wearing two raincoats to protect my precious camera and pants rolled up to prevent the puddles from creeping up to my knees, the shop window was certainly a sight for sore eyes. The rain and constant line of people looking for sugary relief from the cold made it impossible to snap photos in the shop but that just means I’ll have to go back 😉
I may have walked to Sweet in search of what is said to be one of the best cupcakes around but we took a cab back to protect our little babies from the storm =)
My roommates were understandably thrilled by the sweet surprise when I got home and we have not stopped talking about these little guys since. This was among the best carrot cake I have ever tasted – wonderful blend of spices, juicy bits of pineapple, and perfectly moist. Carrot cake has the tendency to be far too oily but Sweet really got it right. And the frosting? I’ve never met a cream cheese frosting I didn’t like but this was love at first bite.
Tomorrow is Easter but my family and I are celebrating my little bro’s 21st birthday instead. Rocky road cupcake, anyone?
Not your style? No worries, I’ve got chocolate covered pretzel waiting, too. And that green sprinkled-coated delight in the back? That’s for all of you traditionalists – vanilla cake, chocolate buttercream.
Nomnomnomnom.
The little Boston cream pie isn’t quite as impressive visually but the promise of pastry cream inside is enough to make a girl swoon.
Tomorrow afternoon’s lunch cannot come soon enough! I’ll be sure to share every tasty detail afterward =)
